Great razor

Very well made razor that gives a comfortable shave. It is not high on the aggressive scale but I find that using a premium blade such as a Feather enables me to get a perfect BBS result. Very glad I chose this razor.

Excellent razor, takes some practice so that you do not bare down on the weighted head but just let it glide over your skin. Make sure you have a premium shave cream/soap as well!

This is one great razor. I regret I haven't acquired it earlier. I used to use Feather Popular before, but this Merkur is a whole new experience. Recommended.

You get a good grip though the handle is a little short for me. Otherwise very sturdy razor and definetly recommended.

It's a very good shave. I find that I'm shaving more regularly now that I've gone from a several blade razor to a single blade. That being said, It's just as close, and my skin is less irritated. I suppose it makes sense, there are less instances of blades crossing your skin, less chance for irritation as a result. Buy this. It makes sense, you can get single blades for a significantly cheaper price, so it makes sense in the long run to own one. Plus multi-blade razor marketing is SO ANNOYING, let's be honest. Recently bought one of these plus shave cream and blades from the Traditional Shaving Co. Trust me, you won't look back once swapping to the traditional wet shave method. The Merkur is beautitfully made, solid and does a great job. Rarely has the process of shaving been so enjoyable. It gave me a great deal of pleasure to consign my multi-blade plastic-handled razor and shave gel to the bathroom bin.

My new razor arrived today, well within the deliver time given and well packed.
I've got to say I was a little dubious about buying this particular razor having never seen or handled one. However, they were unfounded having just used it I have to say I'm very impressed. It's the closest shave to date with so little effort.

My first ever venture into shaving with a safety razor so picked this model as was rated highly. After always using Gilette Mach series razors, the weight took a little getting used to, but I'm amazed on how close it got. Normally, my neck is sore but no issues with this type of razor.

Can't wait to use it again in a few days and try out some different blades! Amazing service from "The Traditional Shaving Co" too.

Quite simply this it's the best razor I have ever used! Great weight, fantastic grip when wet, very gentle, and very close shave. This could be the last razor I ever buy.... For this week at least!

Have now been using this for little over a year now and not felt the need to even contemplate another safety razor. Fantastic shave every single time. Find it works very well with the Astra Superior blades.

My razor of choice until late September was my Merkur Futur. Some tough guys on here suggests a setting of 3 or 4. Cor blimey! I concluded that 1 1/2 was as high a setting I could get away with and still get a reasonably comfortable shave. Nevertheless razor burns seemed to follow me whatever I did with balms and moisturizers. My second razor was a Merkur travel razor. The first two weeks of October I spent in Italy and having shaved with that I came back home without the burns. Two days with the Futur and the burns were back. I started to look for an alternative and felt unsure about the 34C until a useful reviewer pointed out that Merkur's fixed head razors are all constructed the same (except slants and adjustables). I took the plunge and found it the same as the travel razor, but with a much more substantial handle. After two weeks with the Heavy Duty I feel blessed. No more razor burns and happiness all around! In comparison the Futur is a really aggressive razor even on low settings. - I am quite surprised that the 34C is often described as a razor for the beginner. Having a good shave isn't a toughness test, is it? It even shaves better than the Futur, so why would I want a more aggressive razor?

This is my first DE , what a fantastic little razor ,beautifully made I really can't fault it !

Well, after two months of using a Merkur Futur, which is an awesome safety razor, I wanted something a little more relaxed. I tried an Edwin Jagger for a fortnight and felt that it is also a great safety razor. And much more relaxed, too. But, there was still the need for trying the famous Merkur 34C. Because it is said that it is a little bit more "efficient" than the Edwin Jagger by some traditional wet shavers. And, after a couple of shaves with my new 34C, I can really say that, IMHO, it is a better shaver than the Edwin Jagger. But both are excellent safety razors. I wouldn't say it is more aggressive. It's just that it seems to cut the whiskers a little bit more efficient way. But it lacks those great looks... It doesn't have the great looks but it has that little extra punch... :-D
Regarding the service of "The Traditional Shaving Company", I can't say anything else other than EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT SERVICE! And thank you for the delicious toffee candies. They are probably the best I've ever tasted. Will you sell them, too?

Purchased the 34c to replace a rather disapppinting Parker Butterfly razor, after some advice instore.

After cutting myself on the first shave, my own fault for rushing, the razor has since been a delight to use. Am down to 1 pass with a partial second for the tricker contours. The Merkur blade that is included with razor is of good quality and a match for the 7o'clock blades I normally use.

Just take care on your first use and once you've adapted to the short handle, you'll have one enjoyable shave after another.

After spending years of buying a supermarket shelf razor and never really getting a 'great' shave, i felt the time was right to go back to basics. I called The Traditional Shaving Company who gave me some great advice and i decided on the Merkhur HD 34C. When it arrived, i was immediately apprehensive as compared to my other razors, this had a very small handle! But after only one use, i understood! This is a fantastic razor, with a great weight. For me, the razor isnt the best but i have a sample pack to shave through. I also use a facial scrub and the sandalwood shaving cream applied with a badger brush, which makes the whole process of shaving a wonderful experience. I cant recommend this product enough as now I have discovered the correct blade for my face. The razor also looks very cool on its stand!!

As many say below this is also my first venture into Double Edge Safety Razor shaving and I cant believe it has taken me this long to make the change from these horrible modern multi blade razors. Having tried every brand and variety of modern disposable razor, all the aerosol based creams and gels under the sun plus many electric razors to boot I have never found one combination that gives me a good shave without causing ingrown hairs or skin irritation, in fact I feel for every new design that the major brands keep telling us the closest shave ever I have found for my complexion they are only getting worse, the more blades they add the more cuts I get, as for the prices of their refills they have gone beyond a joke. After some google research (other web search engines are available) I decided to take the plunge and invest in a starter kit, the Merkur HD 34c ticked all the boxes and Traditional Shaving Company has great reviews, fantastic prices and what I liked most was the ability to customise the starter kit to my preference, perfect for someone new to DE shaving. Made up I've made the change, first shave not one single cut and my hair growth always causes cuts, have already noticed a big difference after only a few shaves, handle is very short which I think helps with the feel of the blade, great design and a pleasure to use. Bought a starter pack of blades so still working my way through to find what best suits me, bargain price as well, already think it's a great investment. Think everyone should ditch the aerosols and disposable razors, better on your wallet, your skin and the environment, should be advertised on TV I would of switched years ago! Great service and fast delivery too, not enough sweets in the box though could I have a whole box of those please they are rather nice!

Well after the first shave, I can truely say I think I've found the perfect razor. The Merkur blade that comes in the box is equally a match to the 7 o'clocks I currently use. Would highly recommend this razor.

Purchased this Razor after reading all the other reviews out there and boy were they right! Lovely weight, Fantastic build quality and feels perfectly balanced in the hand. If you've never used a DE safety Razor before, then I thoroughly recommend one of these and learn to shave the old fashion way.

This is my first traditional razor following many years of using single, twin and triple "modern" razors. As I have finally become fed-up of the silly prices charged for replacement blades I thought a return to basics was overdue. I chose the Merkur 34C after reading serveral reviews and haven't been disappointed. The razor is quite heavy and at first I thought the handle was too short for me but decided to use it for a week or so before passing judgement. I am now satisfied that my choice was a good one. The razor looks and feels well made and I like the way it can be stored by being stood upright on the end of its handle. I received my order within two days of placing it via the webpage, so service is very good too.

My first DE razor. After reading all the reviews online I decided on the murkur hd 34c.And I must say I'm not disappointed with this razor. The quality which everyone spoke about was so true the weight spot on.May be a little to small for some people. I have large hands and get on with it fine. Would highly recommend this for anyone thinking of getting a DE razor.

By now, I just shaved two times with this razor. It's my very first safety razor, and it's been a surprise. I couldn't imagine this kind of razors could give such a soft shaving as it does. Still have to practice, but I have a great feeling with this razor. The weight is perfect for me. It seems solid and durable. The only thing to regret is that I paid for a Europe Express service and it took a whole week until I received it.

This is the best double edged razor to start off as a newcomer in the world of traditional shaving! The short handle feels strange at the start but once in use it helps keep the razor superbly balanced and delivers a fantastic shave. T. S. Pleasure to use. It's heavy but I get it now - hold it at the correct angle and the weight of the head resting on your face it the perfect weight to shave with no extra pressure needed.

Excellent product. The best razor I have ever owned. I bought a replacement because the rod on the top plate of the first one I bought in 1995 snapped off about a year ago. Tried something cheaper which did not match up, and did not last! I found some information on the web about Merkur providing excellent after sales service and wrote to them about my old razor, and they sent me the top plate free of charge - as a goodwill gesture as their warrenty only lasts for two years. So now I have two razors! sorted for the next 40 years.

Returning to double-edged blades after 40 years of this and that, latterly Gillette Sensor Excel, with a Taylor of Old Bond Street handle, this razor simply does what it ought to do. It is comfortable, well balanced and presents the edge at the correct angle for a beautifully smooth shave. I'm only sorry that such an instrument is not made in the UK.

Very clean and close shave not used the new pack of blades yet,not needed to.

I cannot fault this razor as a newby to wet shaving I feel unqualified to do so. I must say though I like the feel and weight of this razor and so far it has shown me a friendship only a man and his razor could have.

A great razor. I am also a fan of shaving oil and it works extremely well with this product. I did get some shaving rash to start with - took time for my skin to get used to a new way of shaving and to find the right blade. No idea different blades would give a slightly different shave.

Loving my shaving with this razor now,was using cut throat but with this razor my shaving is so much easier.
I bought the feather razor blades to and do not even feel the hair cutting on my face it's that smooth.

Bought this razor after a good research on the internet,it got great reviews for a first razor so I took the plunge and opted for this one and I have not been disappointed, glad I opted for this one the weight is great but when I saw how short the handle was I was a little bit sceptical at first but after using it a few times the handle just fits nice,so to cut to the chace if you are looking for your first DE razor go for the Merkur

I started shaving with a safety razor around a year ago and started with an Edwin Jagger DE89, i thought that was a good razor until i bought the Merkur - not sure why but it just gives me a better shave.

Bought off the back off a discussion about the merits of DE shaving with friends. I really couldn't be bothered with shaving before and was always a rush job with gel and a cartridge multiblade. So I did some research on how to and took the plunge. Since getting the 34, I set aside some me time and enjoy the old skool experience. Much more precise than trying to get 4 blades to do straight cuts on sideburns and goatee. Not one nick or cut in all the time I've had it. Great bit of kit.

I've been using my new razor for a week now and it's excellent. Thought I might cut myself to bits but not even a nick so far. Decided to buy a traditional single blade razor as advised that the new 3 & 4 blade razors cause more instances of I growing hairs.

Has a lovely weight to it, perfect for my hand but if you have hands like spades it won't be for you! Good hold on the thread so no extra blade movement which can happen with cheaper razors.

A real 'man shave'. Old skool shaving - good ole lather and clean crisp shave with feather blades. Takes a little getting used-to, but after the first few shaves you get used to it.

After reading a couple of forums this was the one most recommend for the beginner. Not disappointed at all! Excellent razor. Didn't rate the free blade though.

Brought mine just before Christmas, together with the selection pack of blades. As a first time DE razor user, the weight and short handle felt particularly unusual, and a little intimidating, but a few shaves in, that disappeared. It feels more natural than cartridge razors now. The difference between blades, superficially identical, is astounding. If you're having trouble getting settled with a DE razor, try a different blade as the first change. One criticism, which won't affect most, I suspect, is that I find the handle too short when shaving my head, so use my otherwise abandoned cartridge razor for that. Again, with others, the service from the Traditional Shaving Company, I have found excellent, and will happily recommend their site, and services, to others.

First DE razor and it's brilliant. My first shave was taken with trepidation for fear of looking like an extra in a horror movie afterwards but find this razor really easy to use. Would recommend to all.

This is my first step away from disposable razors and it's everything that was promised. I use the Personna Super Stainless with it and together they provide a close shave without the razor burn I'm used to. There's a great weight to this razor and I'd replace it immediately if I ever managed to break it. The handle is significantly shorter than disposables but that only helps to discourage me from scraping it across my face as I would previously. Great service from TSC as well.

First ever De safety razor (43yrs old), I decided to take the plunge after reading so many of the reviews. When I tried it I was gutted. Gutted that I hadn't has one before! I have been plagued with ingrown hairs and a thick stubble that takes an age to get that clean cut look, since I started shaving, and this is the first time I am totally pleased with the result. I have only nicked myself twice, shaving every day, and both times were from being heavy handed and rushing! Two things I have learned should never be in the same sentence as a safety razor! I just expect things to get better and better, and that is without experimenting with different blades yet!

Excellent razor. Ive had it for 3 years now, I love every shave I get from it, just got to choose a suitable blade for yourself. Ive never gone back to a disposable and never will. Get a clean very close shave each time, even shaving after a week of good growth. No more razor burns or blades getting stuck in hair...its easier than cutting through butter.

Great service and the right choice of razor for a relatively new user like myself. I got some good tips off youtube and from the guys at theshavingroom.co.uk and managed the closest shave I've ever had without any razor burn etc.

I have been DE shaving for just over 2 months, I started off with a cheap plastic safety razor just to see how I'd get on..... I began to enjoy having a shave again so I have upgraded to the Merkur. I'm so glad I did! I have been using the 34c for about a month now, it is a nice weight which means the temptation to press too hard is reduced as you can just let the weight of the razor move it across the skin. As others have said the handle is quite short but after a bit of practice it now feels perfect. I also got a badger hair brush which makes all the difference in lathering up!
I have been using a feather blade and the proraso sandalwood and shea butter shaving cream with Geo F Trumper coral skinfood to finish. I have never had so close and enjoyable shaves and after a small amount of practice no nicks or cuts and very little razor burn.
If I had to give any advice for a comfortable shave it would be don't press too hard and above all take your time and enjoy it!

My first DE shave today with the 34c HD. I think i went a little bit too hard as their is some redness and nicks but overall a good shave. The razor on first impressions feel heavy but coming from disposable's that to be expected; the chrome looks flawless. Overall with time and practise this tool will be i'm sure a trusty companion.

I got this for my first DE safety razor and it's great. Is a good weight in your hand so the weight of the razor does all the cutting.

First time in 30 years I have used this type of Razor,I was sucked into the disposable trap like many others.I have found this Razor a little heavy & handle feels a little short I am sure given time to get used to it I will feel more comfortable.I have not regretted changing to a safety Razor I have had the odd nick but I got them with my previous disposable,Gillette Sensor,the shave I get now is a lot cleaner & smoother.You have to take your time & keep your concentration & the cuts will be few & far between if new to this type of shaving recommend you watch the videos.I do recomend this razor I do not regret this purchase now I am experimenting on finding a decent blade.I purchased the sample blades with this Razor to help me decide.Traditional Shaving Company good old fashion service & very helpfull.

What an awesome piece of kit. Getting back to DE shaving for the first time in a long time. Loving the weight and the feel of using this razor. The results are just what i sought. No complaints and a great service to keep me coming back.

For me had been persuaded to try DE shaving over my long standing routine of an Electric Philishave Wet/Dry Razor which worked really well with my sensitive skin. The electric razor heads are nearing the time to be renewed and wanting to see how good the DE experience was and after research found a great deal on the Merkur 34C with discount code back in August.

The razor is still being used some 3 months on and I get a decent quality shave. The quality of this razor is very good and would happily recommend it to others. It has a decent weight and like the small handle which seems like it will be too small at first but gives great feel and control with a little practice. Takes a little getting used to as a whole - DE shaving, there is a learning curve to the process of lathering, 3 pass shave, a few nicks along the way when you make an error and understanding how your beard grows, which blades work best for you and so on but think it is worth it.

As you can tell I am hooked and recommend this razor to any beginner to the DE shaving movement and beats for me easily the other cartridge style razor's which always scratched my skin and made it sore after a few days use when tried over the years. That said, I don't personally get as quick a shave or as close a shave as my Philishave wet/dry but never need to charge the Merkur and the whole daily experience makes you look forward to next shave and trying a new blade,soap or cream.

The Traditional shaving company were very good with prompt well packaged delivery, updated emails and even threw in a few sweets in the bubblewrap envelope - a nice little touch. I am back here again to purchase from them my second DE razor as want another razor to compare to the Merkur which has set the bar high.

As a seasoned shaver (42 years young) this was my first "Real razor" I did my research and decided on the Merkur HD 34c. I have been using this razor for just over a week now; to say I am pleased is an understatement!

Having used cartridge razor for all of my shaving life, I have always found them to be harsh and lacking for that elusive "Close shave"
The Merkur HD 34c has a lovely feel in the hand, a good weight and well balanced in use. Even after my first shave, the difference is poles apart. The closeness of the shave is superb, even for a novice, only using two passes.

If you are thinking of moving to Double Edge (DE) shaving, then I would highly recommend that you do. I would watch the numerous tutorials available and take the plunge. The Merkur HD 34c is a quality, well built DE razor that should last for years, I highly recommend it.

First time in years i have tried a traditional razor, always been into using the latest mach 3, pleasantly surprised at how amazing the merkur was, my first shave was 99% smooth going with one very minor nick, caused by myself all in all 5 out 5

The praise for this razor is well-deserved. It gives a terrific shave with Derby and Merkur blades (the only ones I've tried so far). I also own the EJ DE89 and there is little to choose between them, but I think the Merkur takes the top spot. Both are good razors though, and I've not had any issues with nicks or cuts. The Merkur does perhaps give a slightly more satisfying shave. Aesthetically, the EJ looks more like an ornament with its lovely chrome finish, whilst the Merkur looks like a proper barber's tool. Unlike the EJ, the Merkur still looks good after a hot shave has left a thin film of scale on it, thanks to the mesh pattern on the handle. The EJ doesn't fair so well and needs a quick rub with the towel to bring it back to it's shiney self.

This razor is a little more aggessive than the Edwin jagger DE 89, but it suits my beard fine. The handle is shorter, but this is of no disadvantage as the knurled grip makes sure you have a good hold, and my hands are bigger than the average, so don't worry if you have big hands. I'm really pleased with the razor, no wonder they have been making this one for decades, a five star recommend.

I've always liked the idea of traditional shaving and toyed with the idea of a straight razor for years but always thought better at the last moment. The DE however is a step closer to my goal and I must say this razor has all the speed and convenience of a cartridge razor but allows for a much closer shave. The Merkur 34C is excellent quality and with Feather blades provides a top notch shave.

The service from The Traditional Shaving Company was excellent with fast dispatch and they keep you informed about when its been sent. Which is my number one bug bare with some companies.

Based on the price of new blades compared to cartridges this razor pays for itself and it's also environmentally friendly.

Great DE razor, a classic for more almost 100 years, and for a good reason! For those that are choosing their first "real" DE, and are between the Merkur 34C HD, the Edwin Jagger DE89L and Muhle R89... If you have a thicker beard, go for the Merkur 34C HD, it's a tad more agressive, so it allows for a closer shave. The EJ and Muhle are basically the same razor, just different branding.

This is my first DE razor and I have to say that I am very pleased with it. It is easy to handle and gives great shaves (provided you chose the right blades for your skin). Def worth it. I would buy it again.

Decided to go for this after reading positive reviews elsewhere and annoyed by over-expensive triple blades. Overcareful on the first shave for fear of cuts but surprised how easily I got used to it. Needs several passes, unlike triple blades, but that's ok. Going to try the variety blade pack to see which I prefer.

A Merkur HD 34c could be the only razor you will ever need...Fantastic shaves - feels good in the hand , even better in use - plenty of 'feel' when matched with a blade that suits you...
As this razor is a '2 piece' , blade changes are a breeze.
I've been trying different shaving brush / cream / soap / blade / combinations...
SHAVING BRUSH: At less than £10 , the '49 Professional' brush ,made by Omega is an absolute steal and works wonders with both sops and creams - knocking spots off brushes 3 times the price.
SHAVING SOAP / CREAM: For me , 'Proraso' (Green Tub) and 'Astra (SP) blades work really well...
However , 'Erasmic' shaving cream , (in a tube) at a little over £1 on the High Street ; used with Super-Max blades , (Stainless or Platinum) at £8 for 100 blades , have me hooked - shaves of amazing quality at next to no cost...Buy this razor , find which shaving soap / cream and blade combinations work for you - and laugh in the face of expensive multi blades , plastic razors , and shaving cream from a can...Don't forget the 'Old Spice' - 'Original' , of course.

My first razor from TS.co.uk and it has been brilliant. It arrived promptly & I have loved using it. It handles well, looks great, & most importantly gives a great shave. As always, it takes a few turns to get used to, but its plain sailing from then on. Definately worth the money.

Fairly short handle, but this razor has a nice weight to it and gives a great shave using the Merkur blade that comes with it. I've also bought the blade selection pack, so it'll be interesting to see how other blades compare.

Read a lot about the legendary Merkur HD 34C always gets great reviews and having used this item I now know why. Spend a few pounds and get what your face deserves an excellent shave. Please remember (I did not initially) take your time shaving enjoy the process it requires a different technique but with time and effort you will not look back.

So far so good. Adds an enjoyable element of ritual to the morning routine (but the novelty may yet wear off). Comfortable on the face and forgiving of my general lack of skill. Seems a perfect bit of kit for a novice and is a source of great pleasure.

After using the EJ89 for 2 months and then trying this out I was absolutely amazed. I coupled this razor with a Gillette 7 O Clock blade and the result was astounding. After my 2nd pass my skin was close to baby smooth. The 3rd was a touch up and not a single nick. My beard is very course but this HD razor just cut so smoothly. This is a bit more aggressive than the EJ DE89 and is just about perfect for me. I cannot wait to try the feather blade in this. I have discovered the sharper the blade the less likely I am to cut myself. I had little if any skin irritation and hardly any skin burn. This is a great razor which is just about perfect for me!

When I Decided to try DE shaving I bought a cheap butterfly razor and it did a reasonable job till it broke. This razor is really well made with a nice finish and weight although some may find the handle too short. I love this razor and enjoy shaving with it, I am trying some different blades to find the one that suits me best. I would recommend and would definitely buy another one.

This razor was recommended to me and is my first DE razor. It’s a great pleasure to use and as a beginner I also purchased a mixed pack of blades to find what suits me. The Merkur HD 34C is a good weight and I am learning not to put too much pressure on the razor and to use the weight of the razor. I also think for the money it’s great value.

Like many, I've switched away from multi-bladed razors due to replacement blade costs, and bought a HD 34c as a result of online recommendations. But seemingly unlike others im still struggling after several weeks of use / practice. Shredding my face regularly and soreness around my neck is something I didnt get with the old razor. And using a conditioning cream after shaving has now become a necessity. I also just cant get as close a shave without many passes (Ive viewed online video tutorials and im not down to three passes as demonstrted in one tutorial ive seen) ...But Im determined to persist for the timebeing, seeing I'm in a minority, to see if it gets any easier.

Well built, solid but was smaller than I thought, handle is shorter than a normal cartridge razor. Still experimenting, even after 20+ years of wet shaving with a cartridge. Ideally would like a longer handle but it does not impact the use of the razor and when travelling etc. can see benefits, just need getting used to. Currently alternating with old razor

After nearly 40 years of shaving this is the best razor I have ever used.

For me, this razor makes a dramatic improvement on my previous model (an edwin jagger DE razor). It is much smaller in the hand, but not in any way a problem, but seems very well made. If I shave daily, this gives me an excellent shave. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Bought this for my 18 year old son as he was getting razor burn on his neck, he thinks it s amazing! I knew already as have one myself !!

I had a Mekhur Futur, but so prefer this one, even if it s not adjustable. Nice weight and doesn t slip from your hands(like the heavier, slippier futur). Gives a great shave and not cut myself yet.

Found myself looking for an alternative to cartridge razors very recently due to crazy prices for Fusion ones. After using a cheap DE razor I needed a good DE razor and after searching forums and the web this razor (being two part also) was a good start. It isn t very long but don t let that put you off. It is nicely weighted and the length for shaving is good - you don t need a long arm but moving from long-arm cartridge razors can take a week or two to get used to how you like to hold it. The razor has a few manufacturing blemishes under the chrome-plating but very small and nothing that affects the operation in any way. The service from TSR was excellent - next day delivery and addtion of sweets and a sample razor pack a nice touch. Glad I changed and never hover around supermarkets looking for blades as they are a few pence each now!

I Decided to revert to traditional shaving and purchased this razor and never looked back. Shaving is a pleasure now close, smooth and no razor rashes. Oh, and as a bonus I will save a fortune on razor blades as cartridge type blades cost over £2.30 each which compares most favourable with DE blades at around 30p each.

Nice solid razor,gave up on expensive multiblade razors

This is very good safety razor for those who are thinking about movin from the standard cartridges. But you must remember that it will take time to get use to it, I had a few small cuts at the start but now about 3 weeks into it I can honestly say that this is by far the best shave I have had.

I bought this razor due to the ridiculous prices of Mach3, Fusion etc. I don t know why stopped using this type of razor, they are great. You just have to get the angle right and they are as good as anything out there. The initial cost is quite high but the blades are very cheap so they pay back over a short period of time, I am very satisfied.

The only way to shave, forget triple blades etc. The perfect way to start the day when the daily routine becomes a pleasure, with this who wouldn t want to shave every day.

My first foray into DE shaving was around ten years ago with a Boots own-brand razor and blades. Whether it was due to the poor quality of the razor of simply bad technique, the resulting nicks and razor burn sent me back to disposable Gillettes. Recently I decided to try again, and purchased a Wilkinson Sword DE razor and blades. This time my shaves were much smoother and more comfortable than ever. Flushed with success, I decided to take the plunge and get myself a "proper" razor. I m glad I did. The Merkur is a quality piece of equipment and matched with the blade that most suits you, will give you the best shave you have ever had. You must, however, invest in a shaving brush and some good quality cream or soap. Oh, and if you haven t tried it, I recommend shaving while still in the shower - it helps soften your beard more than shaving over the sink. I m currently still using the Wilkinson blades, but I think I ll be stepping up to Feathers at some point. Hard to believe, but using the Merkur has turned shaving from an irritating chore into something that I actually look forward to. If you haven t ever used a DE razor before, trust me when I say that if you are thinking of trying it, don t hesitate. I, for one, will never go back to multi-blade razors. 10/10.

Up until now I have been using a Wilkinson Sword plastic safety razor. (I have never got on with multi-blades due to tugging and shaving rash). The Merkur is just heaven by comparison - good weight and balance and well made - feels a quality item. Shaves well with little effort - closer than anything I have had before and no cuts! Highly recommended!

It s been a month into my foray into DE shaving. The merkur has been flawless. Good weight. Short handle makes it easy to use and to balance. Love it and don t see a reason to upgrade after I ve progressed to experienced/advanced use.

I originally used a cheap safety razor (purchased elswhere) and found it awkward to use. I then purchased this razor and found it to be excellent. I am new to traditional shaving and i would recommend this razor to beginners and pro s alike. I found the short handle comfortable and the razor ideally weighted to make shaving a breeze. I am new to using a safety razor and my initial reaction to the HD34 was that the handle was too small. However 2-3 shaves later, and some internet surfing, and I appreciate that this razor has great weight and balance. Shaving has gone from a great chore to a real pressure.
