Great Razor...

Great razor and one of the best on the market

Personally, i prefer it to the Merkur HD 34C (also a great razor) and Muhle R89 Grande.

If you have larger hands, i 'd recommend the Merkur HD 38C Barber Pole over the Merkur HD 34C.

You can't go wrong with this razor.

The best DE Razor that I have ever used without doubt it just glides over your skin with ease even with sensitive skin. I have been using Two Merkur's prior to purchasing this one. You can actually tell how good it is by just holding it in your hand but using takes it to the next level. Very Happy

For the past five years, since I started using a safety razor instead of electric shaver, I have been using a Merkur Classic 33C. I have been reasonably happy with it but I needed a new shaving brush and I had read good things about the 38C so I thought I would try one. It is certainly longer, which I find more comfortable in my glove size 11 hands. It is also heavier. I did not think it would make much difference to my shave but I was wrong. It seemed to give me a closer shave with less passes and much less razor burn. Now I know the difference wasn't the blade. I had only used my Astra blade twice in my old 33C so I took it out and put it in the 38C. My technique was the same. Putting the two side by side, it could be imagination, but the 38C looks like it may have a very slightly steeper angle at the comb. Whatever it is I really like this new razor. I just wish I'd got this one to start with. Very happy customer as always !

This is my first "old school" type of safety razor, as I usually use disposable razors. I'm really impressed with the quality of the safety razor, it has a nice weight and a good size. I was warned by the wife that I would sustain multiple "nicks" from using this razor, but I just held the razor lightly in my hand and let the blade do the rest. I purchased the razor sample pack too, as I couldn't decide on a blade after reading all the reviews. It seems that everyone has a favourite blade that they like to use, so I think it's a good idea to buy the sample pack. The blade that comes in the pack with the razor does provide a good clean shave, but you do have to practise holding the razor at the right angle to get the right shave. I would recommend this safety razor as I'm very pleased with it.

I love this razor, ive switched from disposable to this DE Razor. It tok a few weeks of shaving to get it right, but im now smooth, and rash free every morning now. I wish i new about these razors years ago. Its a shame leeds is so far as id love to visit the shop. Will definatly order blades and cream from this company, the brush i ordered arived in a few cays and a nice touch of some sweets in the package, you dont get that with amazon!

I was fed up with expensive cartridge razors, so I decided to go back to Safety Razors. after doing some research I decided on the Merkur HD Barber Pole 38C Safety razor. Razor slightly heavier than I have been used to but very pleased with the results. also purchased a razor blade sample pack to find a suitable blade. Excellent Product.

My first safety razor at 51. Had a cut throat shave as a present oh my. Advised to try a safety razor what a difference should have done it years ago. Great advise in your shop at Leeds fantastic razor and so easy.

This is the first time I have ever used a safety razor, and my only thought is why did I take this long? This is the best shave I have ever had, and although it takes getting used to and takes longer, it is actually a pleasure to shave in the morning. It is heavier than I thought, but that works in its favour and makes it easier to use. A worthy investment in my humble opinion.

Excellent razor, nice weight and head is much smaller than my Merkur futur, making it easier to shave under nose. Merkur blade ok but much better shave with feather blade installed.

Bought this for my husband and he says it is one of the best razors that he has used. He's got quite large hands so really appreciates the long handle. He uses it with feather blades and hasn't cut himself with it. Definitely recommend!

Excellent razor a quality product and shave

I have just returned to safety razor use after years of multi blade cartridge shaving. I have to say the whole ritual of shaving has become a pleasure. The smell of the cream, the feel of the badger hair brush and the wonderfully smooth feel after a three pass shave with this great razor is something special.

I selected this model as it has a nice long handle which suits my large hands. The feel and balance are great, especially the knurled grip on the handle. This is a two piece razor which holds the blade securely and at a perfect angle. When you first take this piece of equipment in your hand you immediately know you have something of quality.

After a month of using this razor and shaving with a DE blade I seriously doubt if I will ever return to a multi-blade disposable cartridge type razor again. I would highly recommend this model, particularly if you are new to this method of shaving or if you have larger hands and are looking for a razor which will be comfortable for you to use.

I only give this razor 4 stars as it was much longer and heavier than I thought it would be. Having said that, it is extremely well made and feels as if it would last for many generations of shavers!

Just converted to this safety razor from disposable heads. This shaves better and nicks me less. Couldn t like it more.

Much easier to use than my old Futur, which was rather heavy and tricky under the nose. The 38C has a lovely balance and is very manoeuvrable.

I lost my safety razor over twenty years ago and this one has brought back to me just how good a shave you get from this type of razor. It is very well made and finished. It is a razor that should last a lifetime.

Lovely razor, took a little getting used to after my current one but gives an excellent shave.

This is my first DE razor and I m more than thrilled to have it. I m glad that I ordered long version because it s easier to grip it. Hope I m staying with this one for life.

A well-made, quality piece of kit, very pleased.

Great razor! Previously used a Wilkinson Sword DE and was a cartridge shaver all this while. With the Merkur, am never going back. Money well spent. Not sure if the 34C would have been better, but the 38C does not warrant a complaint at any level.

This is one seriously heavy razor..very solidly constructed ..but let down by machining marks under the chrome at the ends of the shaving head..This is just cosmetic and in no way detracts from the razors excellent performance..

Very difficult to make a mistake with this razor - excellant.

First shave with this razor and the Merkur blade provided....First impressions were of a chunky and heavy razor...a quality product with heavy Chrome and a good finish...you do not need to press on the weight of the razor does all the work....What a delightful clean crisp shave...With no nicks or cuts...you can tell the difference with the first pass of the blade......two or three passes and you have a super smooth finish like nothing I ve ever had before.......and I ve shaved with steel for fifty years...One thing I would suggest is a splash with cold water and a moisturiser afterwards...the shave is very close.....

Excellent razor - nice quality with a good weight.

I tried a cheap Wilko Sword DE to test my resolve to return to proper shaving, then spent a week reading reviews and choosing the 38C. I ve absolutely no regrets. Its beautifully engineered, looks superb and handles nicely. No worries recommendeing this even to relatively inexperienced DE shavers live me.

Very well manufactured, good close shave, seems very hard to cut yourself.

Just had my first shave with this razor and words just are not enough. It gives a wonderful shave that feels closer than anything i have tried before it....and i am a newbie to double edge razors. No nicks or cuts, just smooth and very close. Best advice i can give, use a quality pre shave, cream and badger brush and you will never look back.

Beautiful weight and balance. The blade sits nice - not too aggressive but still cuts well and I can get finished with two passes. The grip is superb!
