New Hi-Stainless Razor Blades

Overrated and Brutal

I’ve found Feather blades to be brutal when used in a variety of razors, such as an ancient Gillette Butterfly razor from the 1960’s, a classic Wilkinson Sword model and my preferred choice the wonderful Parker Semi-Slant. The Parker providing a good clean trouble free shave with a variety of branded blades except with Feathers. I’ve found the many comments about how wonderful the Feather blades are baffling as people then often go on to say how they lose their sharpness within a few shaves. I generally shave every 36 hours or so and a typical Wilkinson Sword blade will last me a few weeks and that is with numerous passes with and against the grain so to speak. The Feather give me burns and cuts and this has been something of a puzzle as the design of the Parker greatly minimises such things. I compared the Feather with the WS blade and found it to be very, very slightly wider from cutting edge to cutting edge; it’s a tiny, tiny amount but it is presumably enough to protrude enough to make my shaving experience unpleasant.

My advice to anyone thinking of buying them is probably don’t bother, there are plenty of other brands that do a great job. Ignore the hype about them being the sharpest blades, brutal yes, most certainly. Long lasting? Definitely not. Worth the money? Certainly not. There are plenty of other brands that are sharp and longer lasting.

Rubbish blades

I have held off doing this review as I was really hoping after reading these reviews that the blades was something special. I am not new to shaving this way been doing it for 50 years , I think people get carried away with the hype like sheep you could say, I have just had a shave with a new blade and it took five passes to get somewhere near to what I get with a Silver Blue blade in two, I have noticed you can pick these up for £2 on the internet for ten blades so don't know why people think these blades are expensive I think that tells you all you need to know, in my opinion these blades don't come in the top ten and I won't be buying again. I could get a better shave with a bread knife

Just tried the Feather new hi stainless steel platinum coated blades that I got in your shop Saturday for my Muhle R89 and wow!
Closer then any other blade I've tried so far and not a single cut or nick.
Always had nicks above top lip with other blades.

I've tried about 10 different blades and these are the best. They are the most expensive but they still offer good value for money. I use a blade a week with my 1964 recon Gillette adjustable. Much better than the multi blade razor I used to use.

Don't be intimidated by the reputation. They are really sharp but, when treated with respect, minimise the number of passes you require and so prevent irritation. My new blade of choice.

Tried many blades, this one is the best by a mile by that I mean they work for me. Super sharp giving 5 shaves per blade and after 3 months no cuts.

I have been impressed with these Feather blades. I am cursed with an unpleasantly strong, prickly beard (think thin copper wires and a 5 'o'clock shadow by 4pm). With correct lathering and careful shaving I can usually get away with three passes and that shadow isn't peeking through now until 7pm in the evening. for me these blades knock the socks off Wilkinson Sword blades. I am about to try Gillette 7 O'clock and Personna platinum (better packaging on the Personna by the way) next so I'll see how they compete with Feather. It's a 4 star rating for now simply because I need to see how they compare to their rivals.

These are the best blades I have ever usedfor smoothness and sharpnes. I should be very reluctant to use any others. Cost of about 35 pence compares very favourably with cartridge blades and actually a much better shave.

Having course stubble other blades seem to blunt and pull after few shaves, or leave my face red and painful from the first use. These however last longer and don't blunt quickly. They glide across the skin and leave a very close, clean and red free finish.

As a relative newbie to safety razor shaving I was a bit apprehensive as, like many others, these were reputed to be the sharpest blades around. I needn't have worried as these blades are superb. The sharpness means they are so smooth cutting which translates to comfort on the skin. I have so far only tried them with my 'mild' Schick razor but will now move on to a more aggressive razor. So far, so good.

Great blades. Actually the best I've tried. Yes, a little more expensive but worth it for the extra sharpness and smooth results.

Actually surprised by their smoothness. Just got one nick in my very first shaving with security razor, but it was because of a little pimple.

I have used derby blades which were free with my razor and to start they were ok, then used astra blades which for me were ok...bought these and wow so much nice to use - like the others here i did manage to bleed a little, but a much nicer shave just need to change my technique again!

Superlative blades. Hold their edge well - I usually get 14 or so shaves from them before any noticeable dulling of the edge, and even then they are better than most rival blades.

I was a little intimidated by the prospect of these blades, but I've found them to offer a smooth, nick-free shave. These blades achieve in two passes what three or four passes would with other blades. The only query I have is that there appears to be a sticky resin on the inside of the papers that wrap each blade, making them tricky to remove. Blades have a tacky spot at their centre - almost like a glue spot. Is this normal?

A few nicks when I first started using the blades but I have a couple of warts plus I am getting on in years so skin not as good as it was when I was younger. Secret appears to be not to apply too much pressure and I rarely have nicks now but I did also get nicks with 5 bladed safety razors and Feather are so much better value.

Bought as Xmas present along with the Edwin Jagger razor for my husband. Good quality and no complaints from him.

Im new to DE shaving, and i brought these after reading the reviews, ive not had any nicks, but have a lovely smooth shave, ive also used Derby blades and didnt notice much difrence. I got 4 shaves from one blade, but i was able to get 5 shaves from a gillets disposable blade so a huge cost saving.

I found them to be expensive and far too sharp. Do you really need such a sharp blade at £ 3.50 that lasts for half the shaves others do ? I don´t particularly enjoy nicking myself either so I'm happy enough with slightly cheaper and good quality, i.e: Personna (a bargain at £ 2.00 on TSC , Astra or even Derby). £ 3.5 x 3 packs of 10 = £ 10.5 , vs £ 2.00 x 3 packs of 10 = £ 6.00

Good blades and good fast service

Extremely sharp. These blades need zero pressure applied to them during your shave, they just glide through the beard. I get around 4 shaves from each blade which I'm happy with at just 35p a blade. I have tried 3 or 4 other blade brands in a sample pack and I have not found anything that beats the feather. Add to that the free postage from TSC and it's a winning combination.

These blades are one of the sharpest on the market.superb blades giving a close shave care has to be taken when they are paired with some of the more aggressive DE razors a good solid shaving technique is required .so those new to DE shaving should exercise caution.The blade life tends to be shorter than some of the other brands.But that said exellent razor blades well worth investing in.Thanks again TSC for great service

Have been shaving both my head & beard for many years now, and these blades are a revelation, used delicately & with respect, they give an incredibly close and comfortable shave, can't see me using anything else now

Really don't know why all the panic about these not being for newbies! 5 weeks in using DE for first time ever in 35 years of shaving and no issues using these at all. A few minor nicks - but i had worse with some of the others in the multi pack i bought alongside these. So i now use these or Derby. Derby on days i have less time to be careful(!!), and these for the nice relaxing weekend shaves!

Noticably sharper and more precise than other blades I have tried. I'm definitely a convert. The secret is to let your razor do the work - add any additional pressure and you will draw blood!

Yes, these blades are SHARP! So much so that they don't just nick, they draw blood. Mid-shave, first time out, I saw, looking back at me from the mirror, something that resembled a Mr Whippy with a squirt of raspberry sauce on top. Thank goodness for Alum blocks & styptic pencils. At the end of my first shave with this blade, I looked as though I had been on the receiving end of a 5-round battering from Mike Tyson. On the positive side, it was a close shave. Comfortable? Definitely not.
On the second shave the following day, I noticed quite a fall-off in sharpness; and again on the subsequent 2 shaves (of 2 passes each: my skin won't tolerate any more). On my 4th & last shave, I was experiencing some skin irritation & razor bumps - the latter of which, in almost 50 years of shaving, I have never experienced before. At this point I have ditched the blade - unlike others I have tried which have given me at least 5 decent shaves.
The bottom line. It's not been easy to evaluate the Feather: on the one hand it deserves 5 stars for its sharpness & close cutting. On the other, in terms of the whole shaving experience - which is what it's all about - I wouldn't give it more than 2; so 3*** is pretty generous. Ultimately, it's a 'No' from me. And the rest of the pack will probably end up in my model-making tool box. With a large Caveat!

I would like to add to my previous review.
Feathers certainly seem prone to giving little nicks, whether that is a good feature or not perhaps depends on whether you like dabbing your face with an alum block! I have also found they very quickly lose there edge.
Definitely not buying again.

These are sharp, really sharp. A fantastic shave but you do have to keep your wits about you. Don't rush and you'll be rewarded with a great, close shave. Good for 3 or 4 shaves then change (3 passes each shave).

There's no doubt about it, these blades are nice. Although I haven't tried many blade types these are the best I've used yet. Definitely worth buying.

A league of there own !

I have a really thick beard so struggled for years shaving. I use feather blades, bluebeards revenge razor and proraso tough beard cream. Unbeatable - now I look forward to shaving. Not to mention de blades like feathers cost a fraction of cartridge razors. I can't believe how marketing makes people believe cartridge razors are the best shave.

A disappointment! I didn't find them brilliant to begin with and they fairly quickly lose their edge and are not then particularly good. I prefer either 7 O'clock sharp edge or Wilkinson sword.

I have gradually worked my way through all the different blades whilst gaining experience and technique in DE Wet shaving.
The Feather blades are by far the sharpest, and I love them.
I get such a close shave when I use them in any of my Razors whether Open combed or Closed.
I would not however, let a first time Wetshaver use one until they had gained some experience on something like the Derby Blade.

Like many new to DE shaving I had avoided the feather blades as so many warn you off as a newbie. I was using the Derby blades with an Edwin Jagger and having tried Gillette, Bic, Astrum, Personna the Derby blades were by far the best. The feathers however are in a different league. I have a much closer shave, no snagging or razor burn and am not bleeding everywhere either! If you are new like me, don't be put off just go slow and treat them with respect and I hope you find them as good as I have. Will not be changing.

I have to admit that these are the best razor blades to date that I have used. I have a rather Rough beard and they give me a perfect shave every time. I am able to use each blade at least 3 times before changing it. I have used cheaper better known Hi st brands that are no where I only get one shave per blade. these are well worth the money.

I tried feather as I found my Derby Extras were struggling with my coarse stubble. I found the feather is so sharp it literally glides on my skin, it first felt like it wasn't doing anything but I soon noticed it was effortlessly shaving my stubble. I get 3 shaves out of a blade but I'm happy to pay for that as it's still better value than my old cartridge razors. I would recommend this product.

Excellent product, having never used blades before I was a bit concerned, but no need, it is the best and closest shave I've ever had, won't be going back to the electric razor any time soon.

I can't fault it for its sharpness, as it is definitely the sharpest of the 7-8 brands I have tried. However, I can never seem to get as many shaves out of the blades compared to other blades, and the incidence of nicks tends to increase marginally with repeated use of the same blade. They're definitely worth a try for everyone, but they're not my number one choice.

Don't waste your time with cheap blades. Use Feather. I use them with my three Merkur razors 37 slant,38 barberpole and 42c and end up with a face as smooth as a babies bum.

Echoing comments that they easily provide a smooth 5+ shaves per blade. Changed from Derby (which I learnt DE shaving with) to these so my technique is well adapted to my face - with one pass these blades just shave everything down, no effort required, no snagging or anything as the blade is used for more shaves.

I love these, yes they are wickedly sharp, but if you respect them and have your razor set correctly these are amazing. I get a lovely close shave and they seem to last the week. I was scared to try these because everyone said they were easy to cut yourself, but I now much prefer these to the Wilkinson blades I used before.

A little more expensive than some other brands, but, to me, worth every penny for their extra sharpness and durability.

Whereas in some razors this blade is perhaps a bit ott, for the Merkur Slant it really excels. I rarely use anything else in that razor.

The second time it acquires blade. The most acute. Bree shaving does not need to press hard on the machine. Shaves very clean. Using a razor Mühle R89 Grande Safety Razor Chrome. I recommend!

This blade is very sharp, do not push razor, if You use a Feather. 5-7 times shave with a blade easily withstands! Not for beginners , but if the technique allows is the best blade! The combination EJ 89 + Feather is ideal for shaving and get of quality BBS =))

Great Blades easily the best i have used. I normally use a blade twice and discard but i tried 4 shaves with one and tbh the blade had gone off after 2 , so it does make them higher priced. But saying that defo the best blades and are my blade of choice.

These blades are nice to use - noticably better than the standard supermarket ones (less drag) but the real difference is how smooth your neck is afterwards. Highly recommended.

Would like to address that I saw lots of reviews online stating that they are 'too sharp' and for 'experienced user only' - this is in my experience, utter nonsense. Effortless to use and produce a nice close shave. (and this is not down to extensive prep either.... I have always shaved dry!! Not wet, no soap...just shave it off!!)

These are great. I tried the sampler pack from this site which included Shark supers, Gilette Silver Blues, Treet Plats, Wilk Sword, Derby extras, Astra superior platinums and Lord Plats. Astras were comfortably the best of this selection. Feathers feel noticeably sharper and smoother then Astras and similar to Gilette 7 o'clocks. In short excellent blades, with light growth they can achieve a 1 pass shave where other blades would need 2. I'd give them 4.5 stars if I could as relative to 7 o'clocks they are more expensive, but I am feeling generous and on results alone they get 5.

I have been shaving for over 40 years and have never used a better blade than these. I am amazed at how long they stay sharp. For many years I have been using multi blade razors and wish I'd changed to these years ago.

Certainly best blades I ve ever used. I first tried wet shaving a couple of months ago, tried a few different blade brands but none seemed to offer the great shaving experience that wet shavers usually describe. I was going to buy these as my first blades, but many people wrote that they would not recommend them to a beginner due to how sharp they are. In reality I don t see why a beginner should not give these a try. Any blade, whatever brand it is, will cut you if you don t use it well. So in my opinion if you re looking to buy DE blades give these a try and you re sure to be satisfied. Just be careful and don t use any pressure. I wish I had started using these blades immediately when I started wet shaving because the other brands I used were not giving me the desired results and I had therefore ruled out wet-shaving for a while and turned to Gillette Mach 3. However recently I wanted to try again, and I did so with these blades - needless to say, I was surprised with the results. I hope you enjoy using these blades too!

Very sharp blades, as you would expect (the sharpest blades around, apparently) very unforgiving but easy to get used to. People with sensitive skin might find them a bit rough.

I ve used the Merkur Future safety razor with Merkur blades for some time now and thought i d give these a bash, needless to say i will be staying with them as they are insanely sharp and bloody good!Highly recommended.

I bought Feather blades as a change from Merkur or Wilkinson Sword. I heard Feather were the sharpest blades on the market, so I was a bit apprehensive. They are first class blades, but don t hold their edge as well as Merkur. However, this should not put anyone off buying them.
