Decent enough blades but I do find they pull even on a fresh blade, only get 2 decent shaves per blade 3 at a push but I do have thick stubble. Some redness after shaving but soon goes with aftershave balm. Few niks even to a fairly new DE shaver like me
Excellent blades that have a fine, sharp edge which lasts very well. One of my favorites for a clean, nick-free shave and an excellent match for the Edwin Jagger DE89 or similar 'closed comb' safety. Ideal beginners blade.
I bought a trial pack of various blades. I found Derby to work the best for me - comfortable and less likely to cause nicks thank some (although to be fair Astra and Treet were also very good).
Bought as part of a sampler pack. So far I have tried Shark and Astra blades as a complete newcomer to DE Shaving. I switched to a Muhle R89 after many years of using Electric interspersed with the occasional Mach 3, or used dry to touch up where the Philishave had missed.
My DE introduction has been relatively smooth so far - experimenting with Arko shave stick, and moving on to Neville (from Cowshed) Shaving Cream(sublime smell), lathered in a bowl with a Sempgue 1305 brush. I finish with Neville "Refresher Tonic" and "Skin Rescue" Moisturiser....topped off with TOBS Sandalwood Aftershave, until I can afford the Neville Cologne. (If anyone hasn't tried Neville yet - suggest you do!).
I used the blade that came with the Muhle on day 1, and promptly junked it, as frankly I could have obtained a closer shave with the electric. Next up the Astra Superior's; pain free, irritation free and I can feel my technique improving daily. I next tried Shark blades, and equally for me as good as the Astra's.
So onto the Derby - day 1, and I have slashed myself to bits (remedied with Proraso Repair)and my face is still burning all over after 8 hours....I think I underestimated the sharpness of the blades / over-estimated my own capabilities. These clearly give a VERY Close shave, but I will be putting these at the bottom of my sample pile, and hopefully by the time I work through to them again, I will a) treat them with more respect, and b) hopefully will have perfected my technique.
In summary, potentially a great blade but not for beginners IMO.
these are pretty good, they work for me, its been 28 years since I used a DE razor, so just getting back into it again.
The best blades by far ......... Very close shave with no razor burn
Good quality blades. But yet they don't seem as sharp as the Merkur blade that came with my Merkur 34c. Overall I would by them again.
These are by far the best of all the blades (and I've tried them all!)
However caution you cannot rush with these blades - super fine, super sharp and cut easily if you do not pay careful attention.

These are my first blades I have used, so can't compare against others yet. They give a close shave, but I have experienced redness and a rash on my neck.
I have only had 3 shaves with the first blade and it is still doing an excellent job, even with my wiry stubble ! Not got any other blades to compare these with but I recommend them if like me you are new to the delights of a decent DE razor. I use these with my Edwin Jagger DE89 Barley and its giving me the best shave I have ever had.
Just gone back to wet shaving trying these blades for the first time very impressed will order these again for sure
As a newcomer to wet shaving I am making my choices through reviews etc. I have shaved three times this week with the first blade, which is excellent for me as one shave with a multi blade (3) leaves me with bad shaving burn. I have to say though that each shave has not been that close but I will keep going with this product until I think I am shaving like a pro.
Actually, I wanted to give these blade 4.5 stars, but there isn't the facility; and the only reason I haven't given them 5 is because there are other blades (notably Feather) that will give you a closer shave. Marginally. Having said that, these Derby Extras are ideal, I think, for 'novices', the experienced wet-shaver, and those who, like myself, have 're-discovered' wet shaving after decades of using anything & everything else the market has put under our noses. Up until recently I was a Mach III man. Out of the various sample blades I had at my disposal I picked out the Derby's first. I found them a comfortable, quite forgiving blade (within reason!!) and thought they performed best in a 'medium' type of razor rather than the 'mild' type. The whole shaving experience with these blades was really nice, with barely a nick anywhere, and just as good as the Mach IIIs. It may sound daft but I actually found myself looking forward to the next day's shave, such was the 'feel good' factor! I have tried a couple of other makes of blade since, but like Kevin Danks (05/1/2014) I suspect the Derby's will ultimately be my blade of choice. [And they're a lot cheaper than Mach III cartridges!]
I chose these after getting the sample pack. I'd recommend trying the sample pack for yourself but I felt these gave the best shave overall. Terrific value.
Just started DE shaving and tried these blades to see how I got on with them. I've found them great for my fairly light beard and have already re-ordered.
I started off with the sample pack and carved my face up with some of the blades provided. These Derbys were different and so I stopped searching for the perfect blade and have just stuck with them. They shave me smooth as a baby's rear, and I can't understand the advice that they are only good for beginners and that experienced DE shavers would use something better.
I have just bought some of these blade included in the starter kit for my Stepson's Birthday, as he wants to swap from multi bladed supermarket Razors. The Derby's are a great starter blade as although very sharp they are a little more forgiving for the novice. I still use them in rotation with others and they will continue to be a favourite not just with me, but Thousands of other DE Shavers. Good price too as you get ten blades for £1.50. Beat that.
Derby extra blades are the best I've found. It really pays to start out with a box of 5 different blades as a trail, as they are surprisingly different.

Bought these after my initial purchase of "New Hi-Stainless Razor Blades" and noticed the immediate quality change, I only use each blade 3 times but feel these could be used much more, very pleased with these.
Good product for DE shaving new starters. This is not a blade for high expectations and experienced DE shavers.

Great razors
Bought for DE as travel razor. Moving from straight blades to these was a little dissapointing with final finish but even so still a good shave. Good for getting you started and excellent value but will try feather blades next.
As a new convert to DE shaving I have to confess that I thought that all this "choosing the right blade" business had a whiff of the Emperor's New Clothes about it - surely a razor blade is a razor blade? I bought the multi-pack a picked a couple of blades to start with. To be honest, I was disappointed with the shave which I found uncomfortable. I then accepted the advice that the Derby blades were good for beginners and tried one. I couldn't believe the difference - a close shave and very comfortable, cheap too - what's not to like?
Great blades full stop - sharp and precise and I didn't hack chunks off my face!

Great razors
My first venture into DE shaving and these blades came with my Edwin Jagger DE89L and are brilliant. Cut cleanly and gave a lovely smooth shave. Slight irritation to start with but i think that was more down to my amateur technique.
After using the sample pack - these are the blades I have gone with. The others are great, but the Derby Blades felt less pull and considering I'm using once and dispose £1.50 for 5 is perfect as well...5/5 for me.
These blades came with my starter kit. They seem really forgiving to learn with and leave me with zero burn or sensitivity every time. Although I've only had four shaves I have nicked myself only once. Great blade for begginers but I'm sure experienced de shavers would get nice and close too.

I haven't used a DE razor for years, but after the first shave,remembered the old tip of stropping the blade on my hand before use - gives a better shave AND the blades last longer.
Probably the best blades I've ever brought they give a nice clean cut on sensitive skin without any problems. A very happy customer and will be purchasing again when need more.
Have only been using these blades for the past few months, previously used Gillette fusion. These blades are fantastic, I've not had a single problem with them and they are a lot cheaper than the 'normal' razors you can buy in the shops and supermarkets. A very pleased customer :)
only the second brand i have tried since converting to DE shaving. my first where wilkinson sword i found them too sharp for my sensitive skin so switched to these derby extras and am pleased to report they are fine for my sensitive skin also thought i should mention i have sensitive skin but quite thick but still wizz through and get 3-4 shaves would recommend as a starting point for anyone and great service from Traditional.Shaving

A very good starting blade for first time DE shavers. Very forgiving and allows you to develop your technique and your face to adjust to the new way of shaving. A lot will be down to the fact that these blades just aren t very sharp - recommended for beginners, not good for advanced shavers.

I started wet shaving recently and decided to go with the Derby as my first blade. It is, as everyone keep saying, a nice beginners blade. Putting it to my face the first time I did not cut myself at all. However, it is not the blade to use if you want a very close, irritation free shave. Part of it, of course, is my technique still needing perfecting but it does not cut as close or easily as the Astra I recently broke out. With this blade I feel the need to touch up a lot of spots, which leads me to overdoing the shave.
