Is an alum block, and therefore there are some things you are not going to get, and some things it does great. Do the question is, is this a good alum block? Simply, yes. The block is smooth, very long lasting (i'm 1 year in using mine almost every day) and smooth. So if you want to use an alum block, this is a great one to use.
I bought this as the styptic pencil I previously purchased dissolved in its holder, which may be down to my error in not air drying it first. I am very happy with the alum block - it is more durable and does the same job.
I wouldn't shave without this and really love it. Perfect for costing fingers to get a grip, and of course works great on my face. I do need a additional pencil though so 4/5.
Does do as stated. However it inflicts a lot of pain at first if you do a deep wet shave. I have to do 2 sometimes 3 passes with my razor due to my hair being thick. So you can imagine my skin is a little sensitive after that!

I have been using these for a while now and highly recommend them to anyone who needs to seal a shaving nick. In the Army when on exercise or operation, we often have to shave with cold water which causes many cuts. My block was in great demand by the lads - I could have made a fortune renting it out. An absolute must if you shave traditionally. Recently discovered traditional shaving and as someone with incredibly sensitive skin, using this block means I NEVER experience razor burn, skin irritation or any redness. This should be sitting next to every safety razor in the world.

I'd used a styptic pencil before but never found it really effective. The alum block though is another story. Never used alum block. Thought to try. Maybe it is already great safety razor and other products but after using alum block it does leave good cool feeling and not that burning feeling. In my opinion alum block is all I need for aftershave.

This is the original antiseptic aftershave application that has been in use over four thousand years having been used since ancient Egyptians times due to it’s healing and antiseptic properties. Applied to a wet face immediately after shaving and rinsed off again after a couple of minutes (although some don’t rinse it off at all) I noticed it helped to keep down any razor burn I would sometimes get on my neck and I feel my skin fresh after it’s use.
A must for beginners and those who have thick whiskers.But not suitable for deep cuts
