3 Piece Travel Safety Razor With Leather Case

Overrated?

Positives:

Tiny and compact ideal for travelling.

Negatives:

Handle too short
Doesn't shave particularly well I usually make do with two passes but with this you always need three.

Overpriced for what it is.

Would be massively improved if handle was a little longer or there was an extension.

The travel razor does the job of a fixed head Merkur razor but with a smaller handle which deconstructs into two pieces and fits snugly together with the head into a small leatherette bag. It gives an excellent shave whilst travelling unless your hands are really big.

This razor is small, otherwise it wouldn't be a travel razor, would it? My point is that if I complain about it's size or length of handle I am missing the point completely. I have just come back from two weeks on the continent and have been using it daily, married to Derby blades. My usual razor is the Merkur Futur, the adjustable one. I really hate to say this, but the travel razor both glides better, without nicks or razor burns, and it also shaves closer! You might think that I therefore ought to use it daily, but there is where the size comes in. The handle is too short for daily comfort. Now I am looking for a daily razor as an alternative to the Futur for my rotation, hoping it will match the qualities of the travel razor.

Merkur Travel Razor

Service from TSC was fast. The razor is good quality and gives an excellent shave. I suspect the head is the same as my Merkur 1908(?) replica.

The case however does not appear to be leather, but a plasticy "leatherette". Pull your socks up Merkur!

Got the barber pole 38 for home this little number is great when you are away so small. First impressions it's too small how wrong I was great shave excellent quality.

Very handy and compact. The design is very clever although I would like the handle to be a touch larger but that's just being picky.

Unbelievably small but when assembled it's no different than my 34c. Great for holidays etc.

An easy to pack small shaver with its own leather pouch. Easy to put together and keep clean. A good shave and easy to handle.

I've used it for travelling abroad. Obviously do not put the blades in your carry on hand luggage.

I recently added this little gem to my collection of DE razors.

Firstly I was shocked at the size, this wonderfully engineered razor breaks down into 4 component parts which fit very nicely into a tiny leather pounch. So compact!

The razor itself provides a higher satisfactory and "easy" shave, little chance of nicking yourself with this gentle DE, just make sure you purchase decent blades to go with it.

This is a great bit of kit. Gives almost as good a shave as its bigger brother (HD34) and packs away well. It looks like a proper barber's tool when assembled, despite it's smaller proportions. Granted the handle is short, as many other reviewers have commented, but to that I can only reply that it is after all a travel razor so that's the point. I find the handle length absolutely fine, but then again I don't have the biggest hands. My only slight criticism, or rather, recommendation for improvement, would be for the case to have an additional provision for storage of the blade - if you leave it in the head it comes into contact with the handle when the razor is stored in the pouch and that would surely kill the blade in no time. Overall though, a great purchase - so good I bought my Dad one for Father's Day!

This is a splendid little fellow. I used with a feather blade and the shave was top-notch. Breaks down to fit in the palm of your hand and weighs nothing. Excellent engineering, built to last. Simply put, the only travel companion a gent needs.

A very nice well balanced razor which could be used as a daily use razor. Small, compact and well balanced, ideal for travelling.

Don't just use this when travelling...... Add it to your rotation! I have found that when married with an Astra blade, I get exceptional results. Worth every penny, especially if you enjoy wielding a lightweight razor.

Nice product well made but handle is to small great for one or two nights away but any longer I would buy a full size razor and take that

Really nice looking bit of kit. When I saw it initially I thought it was going to be too small to be practical but actually it works perfectly for legs. I was a little nervous about shredding my legs with the razor blades but I have had no more trouble than with a normal disposable razor. Plus (because only the blades end up in the bin) a little less goes to landfill. An all round winner!

I ve taken my first dive into DE shaving and after my first shave i was a convert. Before this revelation I was totally dispirited with shaving mainly using and the cost of a conventional cartridge razor. Over the years not realising i d condensed the hateful chore down to as short a time as possible and tried everything from the expensive umpteen blade cartridges down to the lowly single blade disposable face scrapers, all with no joy or fun. To my delight i ve found that by actually throwing more time, ceremony and additional age old shaving peripherals [badger brush, wool fat soap & alum block] to the issue of male grooming i m now thoroughly enjoying it. I haven t used any other DE safety razors but i d say the Merkur Travel Razor is an ideal starter razor. It is incredibly small in its deconstructed state but when screwed together is great for my smallish sized hands and is a good weight and well balanced. Not much pressure is required when shaving and there is enough weight in the head for it to do the work for you without giving an aggressive shave. Having just started i ve had a couple of nicks [probably down to my ropey technique] but i ve not had any shaving rash or redness. I do travel on a regular basis but i m using this as my main razor which it is totally suited for and doesn t feel like a compromise in any way. I store it in the leather pouch in between shaves which means it needs to be taken apart and if anything is an advantage as it s a good reason to give it a proper clean between shaves, ensuring an excellent performance every time.

To be truthfull I thought this was going to be a "gimmicky" item...how wrong could I be. A little lighter than my everyday Merkur HD, but still a weighty, well balanced head giving a perfect shave and it packs away to nothing! An excellent razor could easily be used for everyday shaving.

Smaller than your palm with its leather case. Altough its shaft is short, it still weighs enough to slide on your face. Securing the blade after dismantling the razor is a small problem for me.
