DE Razor Chrome Plated DE89 Barley

Superb quality

I wanted a full size DE razor for travelling to avoid having to take my EJ Chatsworth which is part of a set. I visited the Leeds shop with a list of options and was shown all of them and several others by the very helpful and knowledgeable shop manager. The Barley DE89 is extremely well made and has good balance. The Barley etched handle is attractive to look at in a traditional way, feels good to touch and grips well in use. It will not just be used for traveling!

A very nice and very good quality DE89 Barley razor. Weighted nicely, and the barley handle gives good grip. Brings back the pleasure of shaving. Despatched in good time as well.

After 25 years or more of using horrible cartridge razors I decided to go back to a double edged razor like the kind I last used in my early 20s. What a revelation: no razor burn, no snagging, cuts or nicks, and the smoothest shave I have had in years. The Edwin Jagger DE89 is a superb piece of kit, beautiful to look at (if a razor can be beautiful), a delight to hold, and very well made. I recommend buyers to also buy the sample pack of different blade makes to see what suits them best. I'm not sure that the supplied "Derby" blades are the best ones for me.
If you are looking for a better shave than you get with your multi-blade cartridges or electric razor, I could not recommend the DE89 more.

I bought this to tackle my thick stubble and after a 3 shaves I am starting to get the hang of it. This razor is supposed to be less aggressive than the Merkur and Muhle but I had to be careful and did nick myself a few times. I have never attempted a 3 pass shave before but today on my 3rd shave (with a 3 day growth) I had a good clean 3 pass shave and no cuts ! I would recommend this razor to beginners but be careful it still shaves very close and the Derby blades are very sharp. The razor itself is a work of art, nicely weighted and a perfect chrome finish. The barley patterned handle provides a good grip and the weight of the razor is ample to get through thick stubble without pressing the razor onto my face. The service from The Traditional Shaving Company was excellent, very quick and well boxed. Next I plan to buy some decent shaving soap and a badger brush, shaving has become a pleasure instead of a chore !

This is the first safety razor I have purchased. I became increasingly tired of sore skin after shaving with razor blade snagging and struggling to cut through. From this I was directed to traditional shaving company and made of aware of the razors they offer. After being told of the quality shaves in which these razors give via friends there was no doubt that I was in need of one.
After the first shave I can already feel the quality and excellence these razors hold. My face is as smooth as it has ever been with no signs of skin irritation whatsoever. if you are unsure on whether to purchase one of these products my advice would be commit and look no further, there is no returning after one of these. One piece of advice would be to buy a few different sorts of razor blades as I felt I needed a sharper blade which shark blades happily provided.
On top of the high quality product I have received which, in my opinion, is above and beyond value for money the service received from traditional shaving company was exemplary. Will be a continued customer for a substantial period of time after receiving possibly the best customer service I have ever received. Many thanks from a completely satisfied customer!

Made the switch from cartridge to DE. Best shave ever, everyone needs one of these especially as they are not only awesome but made in England! Warning you may want to shave every hair on your hair and possibly your dog as it so effortless!

Excellent product does take a little longer than an electric shave but it is worth it.

I would recommend a great tool.

My first DE and after much deliberation I chose this. Beautifully made, easy to use (i was expecting at least a few mishaps but nothing) and a great shave. My skin is in a better condition than when using Gillette Mach buzzy 5 blades and is just as close. Really enjoying using a quality 'tool' instead of a plastic disposable. Happy with blades that came with it, not tried any others yet. Also fab service, arrived really quickly and well packaged. I am currently shaving every day because I am enjoying it - weird !

The Edwin Jagger DE89 is a well made and very classy piece of shaving kit.
This is my first DE razor. After using it for a week I will NOT be going back to disposables! Didn't take me long to get the hang of it after watching a few useful 'You Tube' videos. Thank you Traditional Shaving for your prompt service.

This is my first DE razor and looks and feels great. Shaving is now a pleasure. I was worried that using a DE would result in numerous nicks and cuts but not so with this razor, it is beautifully crafted.

The razor itself is beautiful, the handle offers a nice grip and looks great, the weight it just right for me and its chromed perfectly.

How does it perform, well after only 3 shaves I've getting a better shave then I ever was with a cartridge razor.
As I mentioned its my first DE razor so I can't compare it to others, but for me its brilliant.
The Derby blades, like the razor, are my first but do the job great.

Traditional Shaving processed my order quickly and the razor arrived all packaged (with sweets surprisingly). I will purchasing from them again.

As this is the first 'model' of DE razor that I've tried I couldn't comment on how it compares to the competition, however, it have served me very well. Good weight and a good size.

This thing is a work of art, it looks amazing on the bathroom side. The modern head design makes for a wonderful shave with your sharpest blade. Mine is paired with Astra SP's and its perfect, although I'm not a fan of the included derbys they will get you going.
The performance and finish of this product are better than items costing 10 times the price making it the bargain of the century I wish is was my first DE as I may not buy another.

Fabulously finished razor with excellent weight and shaving capability. I particularly love the nod to tradition and the Gillettes of the past with this razor's barley 'knurling' and ball-end. Everything about it is solid, beautifully made and I cannot recommend it too highly. I also own and use the lined version (DE89L) of this whisker whacker and have tried many other double edge razors including a goodly selection of vintage models but always come back to the two Jaggers as nothing shaves me quite so well. If I could have but one, it would be this one. As for The Traditional Shaving Company, I can recommend them just as highly as the razor and will continue to avail myself of their services well into the future. I do not often have the occasion to leave such glowing reviews but in this instance, it is richly deserved on all points.

This is a beautiful razor very well made and the chrome finish is amazing it shaves very well and is well weighted.
I cannot fault your service or prompt shipping however I would just like to point out that I tried several times to leave a review but it did not seem to be working just the same as the wishlist does not seem to be !!!

I've been suffering from razor bumps since I started shaving. I gave up shaving and just used a trimmer that was 5 years ago. After doing some research on dealing with afro hair razor bumps I came across a forum that suggested this blade. After about 2months of shaving I am very pleased with the results, my razor bumps have not disappeared but my skin is smoother and looks a lot better than it did using the triple/quad blades. I would highly recommend this product.

Excellent first DE razor. Not aggressive, yet when fitted with a sharp blade like a Feather it makes short work of any stubble. The bundled Derby blades are very Marmite - worth a try as they seem to suit some people but a lot of users don't rate them at all. Great service from the Traditional Shaving Co. too, my order arrived within a couple of days.
