Amazing, sophisticated smell
I feel compelled to leave a review for this amazing smelling thing as I don't want the company to get the impression the complainers on here are representative of men generally. it is as subtle as a smell can possibly be whilst not being your typical mass-market scent. it's called French Vetiver and guess what, it smells like Vetiver! the scent isn't pungent and doesn't linger or anything so I just think some men need to expand their horizons beyond Gil***te. love it.
Good cream, nice shave, but I too fell for trying vetiver. Vetiver is a perfume base, and should be used with middle and top notes. Like ambergris it's quite stinky on its own. Reminded me of old furniture and rotting grass. It is a proper vetiver smell (it comes from a grass), but I'd suggest this is Javanese vetiver of not very good quality. The smell has strong staying power, and it affected the taste of my food! I think it should be withdrawn. I haven't tried it but maybe some citrus top note aftershave might rescue the day.
Very nice thick cream with a rather lovely smoky, wintery, evocative scent. A very good contrast to my usual favourites, Trumper's Violet, Rose, and Lavender.
I also received the Salter Indian Sandalwood in a sellers error, but again a very nice product.
Excellent product, really good lather and an unusual but very nice aroma.
The usual rich, creamy lather from a Cyril Salter product - great to shave with and leaves facial skin feeling pampered. However, the aroma will take some time to get used to - not what I expected, but not unpleasant.
Very nice.Comfortable shave. Also the smell, not exactly french vetiver but Very pleasant.
Agree with other reviewers - revolting smell - went straight in bin - waste of money
Nice, lathery shaving cream, but lacking in the texture of some other products. Was curious to know what vetiver smells like - I might get used to it but I doubt I'll choose this variety again.
French Vetivr Luxury Cream, Revolting smell more akin to the smell of foxes and rodents
I have already quite a good collection of shaving cream and those from Cyril R. Salter were a very good surprise, it makes a good lather easily, very protective, no tingling even after 4 passes and a good level of moisturizing - C.R.S. are in my top 5 today and I will by other fragrance.

Somewhat controversial smell, but i like the earthy/smoky tone of it.
Not the most luxurious shave cream I have used, but it does the job OK

Very nice this. Makes a great lather and a comfortable shave. The smell of it en masse in the tub is indescribably odd but once it s been lathered and put on your skin it s a very pleasant herbal sort of thing, that lingers gently and pleasantly for a long time afterwards.
Nice scent, poor cushioning even compared to a cheap cream like palmolive for instance...disapointed...
