Smooth shave
Just had my first shave with this razor and supplied blade after decades of disposable and electric use. Delighted with it, a very smooth shave and not the slightest nick.
I got this as a Christmas gift from a family member (It was on the list I gave her) having used a safety razor for many years, and sporting a beard which I keep neat and tidy my only one complaint is that I should have changed earlier.
It came with feather high stainless platinum blades, these are extremely sharp and you should use lots of quality soap as they need good lubricant, which I respectively suggest could be cause of Peters issues.
Very well built, nicely weighted but handle could be a touch longer. Impressed when I got the angle correct, cursed when I didn't. Technique is hugely important, but don't give up. I don't recommend if your trying to intricate beard styles as the head is too large.
I can't take anything away from the build quality and finish of this razor, nor from the excellent service and communication from this company, the razor and kit looks really flash and classy on my bathroom window sill, unfortunately that's where it will stay, as an ornament.
After reading hundreds of reviews over 6 months or more, I decided that this shaving system was the way forward for me, I couldn't have been any more wrong.
After 3 careful practice shaves I have lost more blood than a trauma victim, I have facial skin a zombie would be proud of and a constant 3 day stubble.
I have had closer shaves using a 6 month old rusty disposable bic I found under the bath!
DE razors and anything old skool should be left where they are, in the past, the same as classic cars and all things retro!
I have a penchant for German engineering, especially VW's, however I choose to drive a newish Golf and not a classic Beetle for very good reasons, its reliable, it has all the flaws designed out, it won't hurt me and I know it won't cost me a fortune in the pursuit of retaining "Gentleman" status in the pub.
That said, the shave kit does look amazing on my bathroom window ledge, I think I'll leave the top off the cream so visitors can smell the gentlemans musk ;-)
Returned to a safety razor after thirty yeas using multi-blades. Shaving is enjoyabke again. Had to adapt to a different technique as angle of blade is different and jave had a couplenof amusong mishaps but will never go back. This is how shaving should be. I also shave my head and this works great. Only used Derby blades so far but have ordered some others to try..

I can't believe how, these days, grown men - and women - can eulogize about a razor! Never happened in the '60's.
But the DE86 deserves it. It looks good, feels good, and the shave is excellent! And, despite the 'shiny', smooth handle, has a very good grip (though, like any other razor, it does pay to wipe off the soap/cream first). It's the sort of razor you look forward to using in a morning!
This is my first Edwin Jagger razor amongst others including Merkur, Muhle and my 1960's Gillette adjustable, and it's fast becoming a favourite.

For those who like stats. it weighs in at 68 gms; handle length 88mm. Very comfortable. Recommended wholeheartedly.

Bought as part of my first DE kit. I can't believe I've been missing out on this for almost a decade. The razor with derby blades goes through hairs easily, rarely pulling and never gets clogged and is very comfortable to shave with.
Coming from a Gillette fusion, it took some getting used to but once I did, the shave was closer, more comfortable and actually faster to get a clean shave. One pass with and one pass against the grain.
A very enjoyable first DE experience.
Due to the high cost and general awkwardness of multi blade razors, I though I'd try a safety razor. I wish I had bought this razor sooner as, not only is it a better shave than those multi blades but so much cheaper to buy the blades. As the blades are used on both sides, they last longer too. Those multi blades always had hair stuck between the blades and made cleaning really difficult. No such problem with the DE razor as it is so easy to cleean and keep hair free.

Like many here I am fed up of multi blade razors. The hair gets stuck between the bades and is difficult to clean not to mention the high cost for replacement blades. This Edwin Jagger safety razor is a joy to use and the low cost of the replacement razor blades is a no brainer - especially considering they are double edge! Cleaning this razor is really simple to remove hairs and proves multi blades are an expensive gimmick.

An excellent buy. I agree with Christopher Morley below, who said, "Get rid of your Mach s and fusions etc and get back to basics." The handle on the DE felt a little short, after using those (longer-handled) products, but after a couple of shaves I'm getting used to it. Highly reccomended.
This is my first DE razor, and my first impression when it arrived was that it looked a quality bit of kit (an added bonus is that it's made in Sheffield).
Three shaves in now and all is going well. The only problem that I had with it with the first shave is that the chrome finish on the top wanted to stick to my face, but this went once it has a dull soap finish on it.
I would very much recommend this.

Cant get a better blade at a better price.
Finally it arrived today and I had my 1st shave, it was no less perfect than I expected it to be... a really smooth 2 pass, no cuts, no skin irritation and the face feels like a baby s buttocks :-) This razor is REALLY good.
