What is Wet Shaving?

Wet shaving is exactly what the name suggestions – shaving with water. More specifically wet shaving is shaving with water, a blade and a lubricating cushion between the blade and the skin (shaving soap/cream).

Traditional wet shaving means that a high quality shaving soap or cream is used as the lubricant and is usually applied using a badger hair brush or boar hair brush. The razor is not a plastic multi-bladed cartridge razor but is instead a single bladed razor. This can be in the form of a safety razor (double edge DE razor) or a straight razor (cut-throat razor) amongst other things.

The good news is that traditional wet shaving doesn't need to be expensive. In fact, in the long run, it can turn out much cheaper. High quality shaving soaps start from around £5 and will last many months or even years. You will also no-longer be buying expensive multi-bladed cartridges that can cost £2 per blade. Even the sharpest double edge blades can be bought for as little as 20 pence each.
